Jazz music school of the Basel Music Academy
For more than 30 years, the Jazz School of the Musik-Akademie Basel (MSJ) has been the competence center for jazz and related styles in northwestern Switzerland and the bordering countries. In collaboration with the FHNW Academy of Music, Jazz, the new Jazzcampus in the heart of Kleinbasel was opened in September 2014.

A major focus of the MSJ are its tailored programs designed to encourage and promote musical talent: The “Talentförderklasse Jazz” aimed at motivated young people aged 12 and over offers a combination of instrumental, ensemble, and theory lessons at an attractive all-inclusive price. The program can be individually customized over several years.
In the one-year PreCollege Program, participants specifically target and prepare for the Bachelor Jazz entrance examination - the compulsory program includes weekly instrumental, ensemble, and theory lessons. In addition, several electives are offered free of charge. Students enrolled in this program perform in the in-house club at least once a semester as well as in special projects (e.g. workshops) and other guest performances (e.g. in the bird’s eye jazz club).
